Regulars of the Waterman's Arms, (formerly The Newcastle Arms) a Pub on the Isle of Dogs - when run in the early 60's by the photographer and film maker Dan Farson. Including Lord Snowdon, Judy Garland, Tony Bennett, Alan Bates, Elizabeth Taylor, Dylan Thomas, Shirley Bassey, Francis Bacon, Franky Howard, George Melly, John Deakin, Ida Barr, Annie Ross, Groucho Marx and William Burroughs. The idea of the Waterman's Arms was to stage old-fashioned music hall, but the scheme also appealed to Farson as a chance to play the host, drink and meet attractive men. The pub was given a boost by a television documentary Farson made called Time Gentlemen Please!
